At Machnik Sickle Cell Foundation Uganda (MSF), we are committed to improving the lives of individuals living with sickle cell disease by offering a wide range of free, holistic services. Our programs are designed to address medical, social, emotional, and economic needs, creating a comprehensive support system for patients and their families..Through these projects, we aim to secure a better, healthier, and more dignified life for all individuals affected by sickle cell disease.

Free Medical Care and Routine Clinics

Every Thursday, our clinic opens its doors from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM to offer free, professional medical services to people living with sickle cell disease. Our team provides:

  • Medical treatment and management for sickle cell-related complications.

  • Counseling and guidance for patients and their families.

  • Screening and testing services for sickle cell disease.

  • Ongoing patient monitoring and support to promote healthier, longer lives.

Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Programs

Education and early testing are key to controlling sickle cell disease. Our awareness initiatives include:

  • School outreach programs to educate students about sickle cell disease and the importance of testing.

  • Community sensitization campaigns, reaching homes, villages, and urban areas.

  • Awareness sessions at places of worship and hospitals.

  • Advocacy for mass testing and early diagnosis to prevent the birth of children with SCD. Our awareness efforts are focused on breaking myths, encouraging testing before marriage, and promoting early detection.

Hands-On Skills Training

Recognizing the financial challenges many families face, MSF Uganda empowers patients and their caregivers through skills training. We offer practical, income-generating skills such as:

  • Hairdressing

  • Craftwork and basket weaving

  • Tailoring

  • Liquid and bar soap making

  • Computer literacy

  • Bookmaking

  • Shampoo production This training helps families become self-reliant, providing them with sustainable ways to earn an income while caring for their loved ones.

Nutrition Support and Education

Proper nutrition plays a vital role in the health of sickle cell patients. MSF provides:

  • Free nutritious food supplements to patients and their families.

  • Educational sessions on balanced diets and nutritional practices.

  • Personalized nutrition guidance to promote growth, healing, and disease management.

Counseling and Emotional Support

Living with sickle cell disease can be emotionally overwhelming. MSF provides free counseling services to:

  • Support patients in managing the emotional and psychological challenges of SCD.

  • Guide families through the caregiving journey.

  • Foster resilience, hope, and mental wellbeing.

Future Projects: Hospital and Vocational Institute

We are actively fundraising to:

  • Establish a specialized hospital dedicated to treating sickle cell disease, offering medication, consultation, specialized treatment, and comprehensive care at no cost.

  • Build a vocational institute to train single mothers, caregivers, and young adults living with SCD in practical skills that promote financial independence.
